Here you will find some information about me and my career. I am an author of these pages, and I will update these regularly. I am a 20-year-old mogul skier and a member of Finnish Freestyle Ski Team. I’ve been doing mogul skiing since a spring of 1999. My strengths in skiing are technique and speed. In this season I have managed to improve my jumps and the entire performance.
In addition to freestyle skiing, my another interest is photography. I've also founded a small firm around my photography interests. The firm is called HK Production. More information in the link "HK Production".
You are unlikely to see an outdoor person like me reading a book. I’m curious and I like to try something new constantly and I’m not afraid of challenges. I’ve had many big projects, like a self-made and completely functional go-kart to all kind-of projects since I was a little boy. So, I’ve had an interest to technology and all kinds of constructing for a very long time.
By nature I’m kind a perfectionist and in certain things I'm artistic. Mostly it's easy to notice in my photography and mogul skiing. It's easy to see in my photographic work, because I do things really precisely. In mogulskiing I tend to take things slightly too conscientiously or have too much self-criticism to actually notice any development I’ve achieved. On the other hand my self-criticism has helped me to aim for a better performance.
The Beginning
I started skiing at the age of seven. From the very beginning I was inspired by the jumps, the speed and the dangerous situations. My enthusiasm for moguls began, when I watched the TV broadcast from Nagano Olympics in 1998 I was very impressed by the performance of Finnish freestyle stars Janne Lahtela and Sami Mustonen at the final and I wanted to try it myself. The following spring and the next season were full of intensive training, and my goal was to get to the Finnish Championships at Himos in the spring 2000.
The spring came at last, and that was the beginning of my first competition journey. The Championship turned out better than I had expected as I won my first competition! The results motivated me to train even harder. During the following winter my skills as a skier grew better, which was shown at the competitions in the following spring.
In the spring 2001 I got a change to train with the Finnish Junior Freestyle Ski Team. That enabled me to train in more advanced circumstances. In the course of the following few years I improved a lot, which brought me a place in the Finnish Junior Freestyle Ski Team and later in the Europe Cup team. After competing in the Europe Cup for a couple of years, I participated my first World Cup competition at Tignes (France) and Oberstdorf (Germany) in December 2005. In the fall 2006 my dream came true: I got into the World Cup team. At the moment I’m competing in the National team for the third season, and I’m waiting for the long competition season on the road.
